Just Call Me The Grinch

I thought I hated Christmas carols before, but this week I learned what it really means to HATE Christmas carols. (Hence the title) Today, Ashley(my sister) and I performed at and Assisted Living Center(sort of live and nursing home). We have been preparing it all week, and getting irritated with each other in the process.

Although my mom warned my sister and I two or three weeks ago that we would be performing there, but of course we procrastinated to get music ready until this Monday. We practiced for hours on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We got into arguments and by the end couldn't stand the songs we were singing, but eventually we got over it.

Today was performance day. It went pretty well; I only messed up once and Ashley did a good job of covering it up. We got lots of “thank you”s and “you did a very nice job”s after our performances, and to see how happy it made them made it all worth while in the end.

First we sang some Christmas Carols with them. Then we performed "It's Beginning to Look A Lot like Christmas", "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree", "Winter Wonderland"(Video below), "Baby It's Cold Outside", and "Let It Snow"(Video below)

Winter Wonderland

Let It Snow

After Christmas caroling Ash and I got a few pictures taken:

And had some fun in the car:

In the end it was a really great day((:

Photography(:

I realize that this isn't relative at all and is completely pointless, but I figured not ever post HAS to be music related. So, tonight I took some pictures for fun of my adorable dogs. I have six of them, yes six. here are a few of them(:

The Mooser. Her name is actually Lucy, but it rhymes.

That guy on the right, that's Max. Lucy's best friend(:

Pixie(: Sister of Max and the itty-bitty baby. (She is actually older than Lucy and Max)

Oscar/Grumpy Grumpers. He is father of Pixie and Max

Sadly, I didn't get any pictures of Kiwi(mom of Max and Pixie) and Gizmo(Ashley's senile dog), but eventually I'll get some more on here. I'll be posting tomorrow night so keep an eye out!

Your Song

Songs That Scream "The 80's"

Ah, the 80’s, the era of cheesy, extremely catchy singles that never, ever die. To this day everyone above the ages of, like, 8 know a lot of 80's songs, even my 10 year old sister Carrington (that also has to do with the fact that that’s all we listen to on the weekends). Anyway, there are so many “signature songs of the 80’s”; I just wanted to point out a few of the ones that jumped out at me.

1. Love Is A Battlefield- Pat Benatar

Gotta love this song. I always think of the movie 13 Going on 30, where her and a bunch of other girls are singing and dancing to this song. It's the best scene in the whole movie(:

2. Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go-WHAM!
I remember the first time I heard this song I though it was the stupidest thing I had ever heard. Now I really like it, I love how cheesy and ridiculous it is((:

3. Time After Time-Cyndi Lauper
I always thought this was a really pretty song... Its a classic, but she is seriously weird.

4. Don't Stop Believin'-Journey
Oh, how I love this song. It is one of my all-time favorites. There are a lot of good covers of this song, such as the one by Glee and the one by Sam Tsui. I really just love Journey, I like their songs Open Arms and Faithfully too.

5. Total Eclipse of the Heart-Bonnie Tyler
Another reaally pretty song. Strange music video, but I can't get it on so here is a live version:

6. Livin' On a Prayer- Bon Jovi
Ohh, this is suuch a good song. I always think of the time my cousin was singing this and I just couldn't stop laughing*cough cough*(Paul). I think this is a cute music video...(:

7. Every Breath You Take-The Police
This is another cheesy one that I reaally like anyway(:

8. Whip it-Devo
Dumbest. Song. Ever. Just saying. I think it is ridiculous, but I like it anyway. I have a Devo shirt! It's been passed down to me but hey (: Here is a recent video of them performing it. They are pretty old now :P Click here for the music video.

9. The Way You Make Me Feel-Michael Jackson
Hah, this song. Everybody knows it, and loves it, well a lot of people. Even me :D Plus, you've gotta love this music video...

10. Never Gonna Give You Up- Rick Astley
Hah, this song is the epitome of CHEESY. But I lovee it. This little red headed guy's voice does NOT match his body. It's quite shocking.. P.S Does this guy remind anyone else of Duncan? ahaha

Top 10 Songs in The UK

So today after pondering about what to blog about, I decided to do a review of The UK's top ten songs. I figured it would be fun to here some unfamiliar songs. Some of the songs are ones we have here but there are also some new ones. So, here I go(:

1. When We Collide-Matt Cardle
What a good song! This guy actually won the X-Factor this year. It is really similar to the music in the U.S but at the same time it's so unique, which is not so common here. hah. It's cool(:

(Couldn't find a music video)

2. What's My Name-Rhianna and Drake
Good song, it's really catchy, it gets stuck in your head and you can never, ever get it out...Especially the "Ooh nana. What's my name" part... :P

3. Your Song-Ellie Goulding
This song was originally by Elton John. I have to say with her adorable accent and quirky personality it was charming and just awesome.

4. The Time-Black Eyed Peas
I really dislike the Black Eyed Peas. I don't know why. But this song just really bugs me.

5. Surfin' Bird-The Trashmen
Okay beware this may be the weirdest song you ever here. Ever.

6. Whip My Hair-Willow Smith
This song is ok. I don't hate it but I don't love it either

7.The Flood-Take that
This song is really strange. Not a bad strange, just odd, different.. This band was also on the X-Factor. How strange.

(again couldn't find a music video)

8. Hold My Hand-Michael Jackson and Akon
I really like this song. I'm curious to why it's not popular in America. Or at least that I know of. Oh welll.

9. Only Girl-Rhianna
It's pretty good but I'm already tired of it.

10. Like A G6-Far East Movement
In the first review post that I did I didn't like this song at all. But my opinion has completely
changed on it. It's even my ring tone!

Thanks for reading!

The Sing-Off

Monday was the premiere of my new favorite show, The Sing-Off. It is a show where acapella groups compete against each other. The definition of acapella is: vocal music or singing without instrumental accompaniment. This week they sang top hits. Which was really cool to here.

The show is back for it's second season and I am excited! Nick Lachey is the shows host, and the judges are Ben Folds, Nicole Scherzinger, and Shawn Stockman. These 10 groups will be facing off for $100,000 and a Sony Music recording contract. Make sure you watch the Sing-Off(<--Link to the website) Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC at 8.

It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

So I figured since it's finally December I would blog about Christmas music. Honestly, I am not a big fan of most
Christmas songs. But, I do have a few that I enjoy, like:
  • Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas is You
I love Mariah Carey's voice, its so powerful and it is just a cute song.
Check out her new Christmas album, Merry Christmas II You.

  • WHAM'S Last Christmas
I love the 80's feel to this song, its a classic. One of my favorites.
  • Elvis's Blue Christmas
Who doesn't love Elvis? His voice is like...well you know. Its so bluesy and just awesome.
  • Brenda Lee's Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree
Again, another classic every time I hear it I think of the movie Home Alone when he is convincing the robbers that his family is throwing a party.
  • Lady Antebellum's Baby, its Cold Outside
Its a remake, but I actually like it better. (:

The other day while checking yahoo news, like I regularly do everyday. I saw this cute little girl, and a caption that said "8 year old's remake of Mariah Carey classic". Obviously, I had to read. Well this girl, she was amazing, and adorable. You know I was excited when I read this:

"Rhema Marvanne, an 8 year old gospel singer, recently remade Mariah Carey's All I want for Christmas is You and Elvis Presley's Blue Christmas." (Yahoo)
